2 Weeks old - Dec 11th
A whole week has passed, but doesn't it seem more like a lifetime? We are adjusting to feedings and getting by on less sleep, Chloe is also adjusting to her new world. She sleeps in short naps, wakes to feed, and spends some time quietly alert before drifting off to sleep again. Babies' eyes focus best on objects between 8 and 15 inches away not coincidentally, the distance to your face when held in your arms.
Chloe loves the bath and doesnt cry until it is time to get out.
The only way your baby knows to communicate is by crying, but you can communicate with her through your voice and your touch. (Chloe can now recognize your voice and pick it out among others.)
Chloe loves to be held, caressed, kissed, stroked, massaged, and carried. She may even make an "ah" sound when she hears your voice or sees your face, and she'll be eager to find you in a crowd.

Dec 4th Chloe is 1 week today!
Visit to the doctor today for a one week well visit! Chloe is drinking about 2-3 ounces at a time and is sleeping about 3-4 hours at a time. Dr. Bass gives Chloe a clean bill of health. She now weighs 7lbs 8.5oz so we will see what next week holds at our 2nd week well visit.
Here is a little about 1 week old babies:
Babies are born with many automatic reflexes that help them make the transition to life outside the womb. Stroke her cheek, and she'll turn her head toward your finger and move her mouth as if groping for a nipple. If you hold her upright, she'll move her legs as if walking. Most of these automatic reflexes disappear within weeks of birth. Your baby's eyesight is still pretty fuzzy. Babies are born nearsighted and can see things best when they're about 8 to 15 inches away, so she can see your face clearly only when you're holding her close.
Don't worry if your baby doesn't look you right in the eye from the start: Newborns tend to look at your eyebrows, your hairline, or your moving mouth. As she gets to know you in the first month, she'll become more interested in having eye-to-eye exchanges. Studies show that newborns prefer human faces to all other patterns or colors. (Objects that are bright, moving, high-contrast, or black-and-white are next in line.)
Jeff and I are so happy and blessed. We love Chloe!

Happy Thanksgiving!!! Week 39

Chloe is now at week 39 and waiting to greet the world! She continues to build a layer of fat to help control his body temperature after birth, but it's likely she already measures about 20 inches and weighs a bit over 7 pounds, a mini watermelon. We will see in the morning. The outer layers of his skin are sloughing off as new skin forms underneath. Chloe is due to arrive shortly after 10 am in the morning via C-Section!! I can hardly wait.
Today, we enjoyed time with family as we celebrated Thanksgiving!! We have tons to be thankful for this year and God has blessed us beyond what we deserve.
Here is part of George Washington's Speech announcing Thanksgiving---
Whereas it is the duty of all Nations to acknowledge the providence of almighty God, to obey his will, to be grateful for his benefits, and humbly to implore his protection and favor – and Whereas both Houses of Congress have by their joint Committee requested me “to recommend to the People of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness.”
Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be – That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks – for his kind care and protection of the People of this country previous to their becoming a Nation – for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war –for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed – for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us.
And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions – to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually – to render our national government a blessing to all the People, by constantly being a government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed – to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shewn kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord – To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and Us – and generally to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best.
Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.

C-SECTION SCHEDULED FOR 11/27/09 at 10am
Chloe is still frank breech and we have elected not to have external cephalic version (ECV) where the doctor tries to turn her so C-Sections is set for November 27at 10 am.
Chloe has really plumped up. She weighs about 6.8 pounds and she's over 19 1/2 inches long (like a leek). She has a firm grasp so we will soon be able to test when we hold her hand for the first time! Her organs have matured and are ready for life outside the womb.
Hopefully Chloe will have blue eyes. If she's born with brown eyes, they'll likely stay brown. If she's born with steel gray or dark blue eyes, they may stay gray or blue or turn green, hazel, or brown by the time she's 9 months old. That's because a child's irises (the colored part of the eye) may gain more pigment in the months after she's born, but they usually won't get "lighter" or more blue. (Green, hazel, and brown eyes have more pigment than gray or blue eyes.)
A last minute to do list is now underway!

36 Weeks--Doctor Visit
This week we were able to see Dr. Matthew Smith. He told us that Chloe is breech again and we are scheduled for another Ultrasound next Wednesday to see. I hope that our friend Leigh is working so that we will be able to get a higher resolution of the ultrasound!
Chloe is still packing on the pounds — at the rate of about an ounce a day. She now weighs almost 6 pounds (like a crenshaw melon) and is more than 18 1/2 inches long. She's shedding most of the downy covering of hair that covered her body as well as the vernix caseosa, the waxy substance that covered and protected her skin during her nine-month amniotic bath. She swallows both of these substances, along with other secretions, resulting in a blackish mixture, called meconium, will form the contents of her first bowel movement.
At the end of this week, your baby will be considered full-term. (Full-term is 37 to 42 weeks; babies born before 37 weeks are pre-term and those born after 42 are post-term.) Since Chloe is not in a head-down position, our practitioner may suggest scheduling an "external cephalic version," which is a fancy way of saying she'll try to coax your baby into a head-down position by manipulating her from the outside of your belly. I do not want this at all. The ultrasound will tell us more.

35 WEEKS-- Size of a Honeydew
Chloe now doesn't have much room to maneuver now that she's over 18 inches long and tips the scales at 5 1/4 pounds (pick up a honeydew). Because it's so snug, she isn't likely to be doing somersaults anymore, but the number of times she kicks should remain about the same. Her kidneys are fully developed now, and her liver can process some waste products. Most of her basic physical development is now complete and she'll spend the next few weeks putting on weight.

DOCTORS VISIT- 10/27/09
We got to have lunch today with Jill, Jennifer, Kim and Rebekah. Afterwards, we ran into Hope Heaton Greene, RN, a friend from nursing school. It was so good to see Hope's smiling face there at the office!! We also enjoyed talking to Dr. LeBel. She was so excited and friendly. Baby Chloe is no longer breech and is ready for descent! Last week, we were busy getting the nursery ready. It will not be long now before Chloe makes her DEBUT!

34 Weeks- Size of a Canteloupe

Chloe now is the size of an average cantaloupe and is almost 18 inches long. Her fat layers, which she'll need to regulate her body temperature once she's born, are filling her out, making her rounder. Her skin is also smoother than ever. Her central nervous system is maturing and her lungs are continuing to mature as well. Babies born between 34 and 37 weeks who have no other health problems generally do fine. They may need a short stay in the neonatal nursery and may have a few short-term health issues, but in the long run, they usually do as well as full-term babies.
Jeff and I are busy putting the final touches on the nursery and are awaiting Chloe's arrival!!

This morning when the Lord opened a window to Heaven, he saw me, and he asked:
My child, what is your greatest wish for today?
I responded:
'Lord please; take care of the person who is reading this message,
their family and their special friends. They deserve it and I love them very much'
The love of God is like the ocean, you can see its beginnings
but Not its end
ANGELS EXIST, but sometimes, since they don't all have wings we
call them FRIENDS, SUCH AS YOU.

32 Weeks -- M.D. Visit
We were able to see a little of Chloe this week. She is shy and was putting her hands in the way during the ultrasound. Good news-- Chloe measurements were great and growth plates looked good in her bones. She currently weighs about 4lb and 13oz
at present. She is beginning to fatten up and develop subcu tissue along with strong nails. Jeff and I were excited to see some of the ultrasound pics. Chloe is breach so another ultrasound will be needed in the upcoming visits.

Chloe at 31 weeks
Chloe measures over 16 inches long. Chloe weighs about 3.3 pounds (try carrying four navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt. She can turn his head from side to side, and her arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin. She is kicking a lot and doing somersaults Take comfort: All this moving is a sign that your baby is active and healthy. We have another Ultrasound Tuesday and our first baby shower!! Pics coming soon.
